So I spent the last two weeks typing up a Weiss fanfic (for a christmas exchange) while re-organizing my stuff after the JLPT insanity. This week, however, the fanfic gods decided to use me as target practice:

* Monday morning: My 8-year old laptop finally bit the dust. Well, not quite. See, it made a funny buzzing sound, then the backlight burnt out. So she's still actually working, but to see anything, I'd need a flashlight held against the screen in an strange angle. Spent the rest of the day transferring everything onto my Mom's Acer desktop.

* Thursday morning: I declare the fanfic finished. My beta, Riisha, is busy with work, so I decide to fiddle with the formatting using LJ. LJ refused to load for me all day, so by afternoon, I give up and decide to continue later. I turn off the desktop.

*Thursday evening: My mom wants to use Facebook, but the computer won't turn on. I call Riisha in a panic.

*Friday morning: Computer turns on, but formats itself. FUCK.

Important stuff lost:
* My latest CV and resume updates
* Thesis files. Old, but still precious to me.
* Pictures, like graduation and anniversaries.
* Ichihime doujin translation project files
* AB doujin project files
* Mononoke doujin script files
* Drawing scans
* Fanfic stuff

*Friday late morning: I try to recover files, most of it is intact except for TWO things: My copy of ACC, and the fanfic (I could only recover something corrupted with gibberish). THEN the computer dies.

* THEN, after I'm already shaking with frustration, and attempting to re-write fanfic from memory on a notebook, the POWER goes out. NOOOOOO

*Friday afternoon: Power's back on, and I'm back trying to recover everything. Most decrypting methods I find don't work. :S DVD drive refuses to read CDs, so I can't re-install MS Office. Whyyyyy

*Saturday morning: Downloading OpenOffice as alternative. Hopefully it decrypts, or I'll be typing the fanfic from memory (50% of it has a backup online, though). Meanwhile, I need to go accompany my mom for Christmas shopping and looking for a wedding gift. O__O Must. Persevere.

I'll be back, fanfic gods! *shakes fist*

O-Oh god, my desktop is an Acer, too. I'm going to replace it as soon as I have the money - it's like two (three?) years old, but it already lags so bad when I'm typing on LJ or Firefox that it makes it literally painful to edit fics.

The fanfic gods HATE YOU, man. I would cry so SO HARD.

O_O Yes, it would be prudent to get it replaced - my Toshiba laptop was old, but she was a far tougher bitch than this one (not even storms or ant invasions could stop her). Apparently this desktop fizzles out if I try to use it on a daily basis (my mom's computer illiterate see, so she only attempts to touch it every couple of months).

I teared up a couple of times, and my sister found me venting my frustration on water-soluble crayons during the power black-out. >_> Looks like I'll be re-typing it, but I have notes jotted down in a notebook. BRUTE FORCE solution. NOTHING CAN STOP ME.

Man, I still have an iBook that's like 10 years old and still works. Macs are devil computers like that.

G-God, I've only ever kept notes of ONE of my fanfics on paper, and I even stopped doing that after a while. After having some coworkers read one of my (intentionally awful) fics out loud, I developed a real aversion to it. But I guess it comes in handy!
