After three weeks of barricading myself at home, I finally got around to oh, memorizing 500 kanji. That's 500 more to go. That and practice a lot of grammar for JLPT. This is also the main reason why no one will see me in daylight for the next two weeks. So I decided to post about fandom instead of my daily life.

With my burner shot and having an old 18 gb laptop to work with, it's impossible to keep downloading anime, and I'm running out of interesting manga to read. Lately, I've been relying on video-streaming sites to be able to watch some series. Recommends are welcome.

Lately, I finally found the time to watch Black Lagoon. First impression of Revy: for some reason my brain screams vaginavaginavagina whenever she's the scene focus, but after a while I figured it was because she's a lot like those macho stereotypes that makes you think of angry dicks whenever they're around. Yeah, that's right, she's like this big, angry vagina walking around with guns; it's not just the denim panty shorts, it's the type that you can smell from a hundred yards off. I would've quit watching if Rock turned into a stereotype shounen hero that charges at everything just to fit in with the group, but thankfully it was the opposite. Anyway, as long as he and Revy balances each other out it's pretty ok. In fact, I think my current fave episode is when he and Revy finally gets some decent nakama bonding time.
Since I love seiyuus, I think Daisuke Namikawa's pretty good in this one. But what got me was when I ended up waiting for a certain character to speak, because my brain melts with happiness from the deep, gravelly voice of Jouji Nakata (Alucard, Folken, oh yes, that one, rawr). :D if only he'd recur more.

Finished watching THE HOGFATHER movie (s - there's two, like Color of Magic). I liked it more, and well, Death and Susan and Albert + the Discworld take of Christmas = loads of fun. I laughed my ass off at Nobby's cameo because yes, that IS someone who ought to have a piece of paper certifying he's a person. Even Death had trouble identifying his species. Oh, and since this movie had a Mustrum Ridcully in it, it got 100+ more love from me. I think I found my Christmas movie for the year.

Speaking of action women, there's a classier one in Michiko to Hatchin. An anime about two women in Brazil, Michiko and Hatchin. Michiko is an escaped convict. Hatchin is a little girl living a Cinderella life with her foster parents. Heard the music's from the Cowboy Bebop team. I am enjoying the story so far. The setting also appeals to me because of some similarities to Filipino life. Watch it.

Ah. My first serious fandom from almost ten years ago. Which shocks me because every time I check, the fandom is STILL ALIVE AND KICKING. And it could only get better, because time weeds out the bandwagon people, plus all those people who write fanfic and do fanart get their skills honed and what you've got left after is awesome. In fact, a community is holding a weekly rewatch of the old anime (yes, that first one you might know as Knight Hunters, lol) and discussions per episode. Ah, nostalgia. And they still hold contests and stuff because the Weiss universe is so damn big and hole-y, you can write in anything and make it plausible, be it aliens, vampires, yuri (yes, in a cast composed mainly of men, there is yuri), het, nazis and male pregnancy. Of that last one, I won't even touch in any other fandom (except Sex Pistols, where it's canon) because it's utterly ridiculous but it makes sense in Weiss as long as you can chuck in a mad scientist with a syringe. Which it has in a moderate amount. D: Anyways, there's a contest I want to join and I need to resurrect my old, unfinished sketches.
Trivia: I blame Weiss for making me immune to pretty bishounen, real or not. Because your sense of aesthetics get warped when you realize you've been fangirling old, strange, Japanese, not-so-attractive men for years.

And that man with receding hairline and yellow hair? That's Miki. He's as appealing as your average cancer patient most of the time. Yet, for Japanese practice, I downloaded half a dozen BL radio dramas yesterday, with the only requirement that Miki's in it. My favorite comment from the other fans: We love him and his bedroom voice, but sometimes he sounds like he's having an asthma attack. >_>

Bleach:
Kubo's unfinished sketch in the 2009 Bleach calendar, cleaned by imamess and brought to you by the fun people in FLOL:

My side of the fandom: That's so fucking hot.
Me: This is probably the only time that I have ever envied Rukia. SO HARD.
